Pushing The Envelope – I Mean Borders

Friendship Designs is the creation of Sue Shipman and Sue Keck.  Friends, with lots of creativity between them, they design quilts that are anything but ordinary.  Many of their patterns feature beautiful, realistic looking flowers.  Some of the patterns are funny and whimsical.  Almost all of them will have you looking twice.

These Swaying Sunflowers just cannot be contained. . . they are blowing in the wind and out of the borders.   The pattern for this 18″ x 44″ tablerunner includes full size applique artwork.  Easy to follow instructions will help you with the pillow-turn technique.

Outside The Box is the perfect pattern for a favorite fabric that you don’t want to cut too small, but would rather show off in larger pieces.  An easy quilt in two sizes: 34″ x 48″ and 60″x 80″.

Even Witches need a Night Out!  These colorful “ladies” seem to have taken up line dancing to relieve the stress of being so witchy.

I wonder if the witches ran into these ladies who are doing the Snowshoe Shuffle?  Brightened with a colorful pieced border, this wall hanging finishes at 19 1/2″ x 23 1/2″.

Have you got That Lovin’ Feline?  The sight of these two kitties snuggling under a bright parasol will make any cat lover smile.  Look at their tails… isn’t that sweet?!

This Tender Tulip is an example of the realistic flowers you’ll find in Friendship Desingns patterns.   Hanging a grouping of these sure would look pretty.

Columbine flowers are the subject of Picture Perfect.  Easy to follow instructions and full size applique artwork will ensure you success with this wall hanging. Instructions include hand and fusible applique methods.

A Tisket, A Tasket, A Green and Yellow Basket…

Baskets can be found in many quilts. And they always seem to hold good things. Usually flowers or fruit but sometimes you’ll find another surprise.

In Grandmother’s Flower Garder you’ll findGrandmother’s Flower Basket. An abbreviated version of the block creates the blooms growing out of the pots in this basket made of woven fabric tubes. Doesn’t it look cute in thirties fabrics?! And check out those corners… bet you’ve never done that before.

Pippa Moore of Kitambaa Designs created this wallhanging called simply Grace. An elegant basket overflowing with flowers. A few of them have fallen and lay at the base of the basket. Fusible applique with easy-to-follow instructions allows you to put this one together even if you are a relative beginner.

This Fruit Basket by Bonnie Sullivan of All Through the Night looks good enough to eat. A wool penny rug in bright colors, this will look great in your kitchen and will get those appetites revved up.

What a combination… colorful log cabin blocks (use up your scraps!) and a basket full of kitties equals an adorable Kitties Pillow. If you don’t want to stuff it, you can make it a wall hanging. Irresistable either way.

These Thimble Baskets are so cute I might have to take up hand sewing just so I can justify having one (or more!) of these around. How about you? These are begging for someone to play with color combinations. Hmmm, you could even make a “green and yellow basket.”

Olde Cedar Chest Quilting Fabric and Free Pattern

Fabric designer Faye Burgos creates beautiful floral collections for Marcus Brothers. One of her latest collections is Olde Cedar Chest. Large floral printin antique tones of brown and pink with a bit of sage green thrown in, anda small floral print in the same colors are the focus fabrics.

Subtle stripes appear on the background of the larger floral.

A plaid on the diagonal jazzes things up.

A green leafy print for a little pop.

This dot spattered printcomes with a pink background and a tan background.

This tone on tone also comes in pink.

Here’s a table topper from some of these fabrics. Measuring 36″ square, it’s quick and easy to make.

Three fat quarters (small floral, plaid, and tone on tone pink) plus a yard of tan and a yard of dots on pink background will complete the quilt and leave enough of the dotty pink for binding. Leave a comment with your e-mail address and we’ll send you the pattern in pdf format.

The “season” pocket patterns have instructions for placemates and a table runner. Spring Pocket features pretty flowers – that you can feel free to embellish – jazzed up with surrounding ric-rac.

The Calendar Pocket Series is a pattern for a table runner and a block of the month all in one package. (And still only $5!)
