While we might not be looking forward to winter, fall weather certainly is a pleasant change from the blast of heat we had this summer. Our fabric choices turn to beautiful golds, browns, reds, and yellows.

Look at all the colors and texture in this corn! Aside from adding interest to any block, this Dutchess Country fabric would look great in a landscape quilt, or as a border. It would also make a unique binding.

The scattered wheat in gentle curves adds motion to Harvest Home, a tone on tone gold that would pair nicely with the corn fabric.

Add Mixmaster Scribbles Red for the pop! There’s so much to like about this fabric… the waves of intensity, the squiggly lines and the warm color.

Another red, this one is a little deeper, Mixmasters Dot to Dot Cranberry has more subtle variations in color.

Adding a deep brown seems called for and Jo Morton’s Cocoa Express works. The tan and red lines that create the diamond shapes remove the boredom of a solid brown, but still allow the fabric to be “read” as brown.

Finally, to brighten things up, Yellow Classic Yellow. A tone on tone, there are little “v”s of red…. just a smattering. It kind of reminds me of chicks and their beaks.

What do you think of this color pallette? What would you pair with the corn fabric?

Recently, while preparing to start an arty quilt with goldfish, I searched my stash for just the right orange. It was a quick search - I have so little orange! Lots of blues, brown, greens, creams, whites, and reds, but just a few oranges. And I don’t know why. It’s a lovely color, with good manners. It will never give you the cold shoulder, but always a warm welcome. So I’m off on a search for more orange.

Sunny Daisies on an orange background in American Jane Snippets clearly says ”Summer”.

Splish Splash Spots Orange is a double dose of happy… polka dots and orange all in the same fabric.

Surf ‘N Safari is a bright, bold, must-be-noticed orange! The background undulates from the lightest shade to a deep orange with an overlay of splatters in even darker orange.

Happy yellow swirls are paired with small blue dots on an orange background in Play Date. It’s a litte heavy on the yellow, but this one . . . .

. . . . with yellow in the form of smallish stars on the same background (also in the Play Date line) gives a hint of yellow, and lets the orange take center stage.

Garden Party orange is very soft and underplayed. It could be used in a project and wouldn’t shout orange, but a warm feeling would still result.

Getting back to my goldfish, I think Splash Papaya might be just right. It will really pop against the background of many different blues.

Do you have any orange quilt fabric in your stash?

There is something about fabrics with dots that adds a happy look to quilts. Fun, funky, playful, modern, retro… all rolled into one. Here’s a few of my favorites.

Modern Muddle Green from Print Concepts has a 70′s look and yet it looks totally modern. The white stripes bring even more energy to the look.

Add these Modern Muddle coordinating fabrics for a quilt that will liven up any space: college dorm room, family room, teen’s room.

I love the white ribbon that winds around in little curlicues in the Riverwoods Collection. This dotty fabric is available in four different colors: blue, red, cream, and green. If you are tired of the same old shades of red and green for Christmas projects, these fabrics are a great alternative. For coordinating fabrics there is a cream with snowflakes and a fun blue plaid.

Are you looking for bright and bold?Bright, colorful, friendly dinasours are scattered across an equally colorful background of different sized dots. Though they are from different fabric lines, this One Bizillion BC goes nicely with the Pound Hound dotty fabrics.

This weekend you can save 10% on any and all of the fabrics in our Dots and Diamonds quilt fabric category. Just head on over to our QuiltersWarehouse Facebook Page for the coupon code. It’s good through the end of the day Sunday.

If you look at the Quilting Fabric page on our QuiltersWarehouse website you will notice a new category called “Fabric Collections“. These are collections of half yard cuts (and sometimes a panel) from the same fabric line. No worries about “will this fabric go with the first one I chose?” No problems gathering several fabrics and making sure they all work together. It’s already done! You can pair some of these up with patterns from the “Six Halves Make A Whole” series of books, as several of the collections have 6 half yard cuts or more.

The American Valor Fabric Collection comes with 7 half yard cuts of patriotic prints and a complete panel of the the American Valor quilt fabric by Jo Morton. You can make a generous sized lap quilt from this collection.

Do you need to make any baby quilts for new arrivals? The Monkey Games Fabric Collection includes 1 panel and 8 1/2 yard cuts. Be creative and you can probably get a crib quilt, plus a small wallhanging from one collection.

Dr Suess fabric is another popular choice for baby quilts. I even know a few adults that would love a quilt from this Cat In The Hat Collection. It’s true, I do. By hook or by crook, they would love to have a quilt. With a book, or a nook, they would snuggle with a quilt.

Do you have a wanna-be cowboy in your life? Or perhaps a real cowboy? The Buckaroo Fabric Collection has 7 half yard cuts of fabric by ADORNit.

Check out the rest of the collections and come back often because we’ll be adding more Fabric Collections!

The QuiltersWarehouse home page is all dressed up for Christmas. You’ll find quick links to lots of Christmas quilt patterns . . . . all kinds of patterns for all kinds of Christmas projects.

Most of these patterns would make great gifts either all sewn up and made for your non-crafty family and friends or the patterns themselves for any quilters you know. Of course even quilters would love to recieve a project already finished – and they will truly appreciate the work and love that went into the making.

Any patterns that you really like, but know that you won’t have time to make before Christmas, you can add to your wish list. Maybe you’ll find them under the tree come Christmas morning. Then while the rest of the family is dozing after all the festivities, or playing with their new “toys” you can “play” with your new patterns. Or add a quilt jigsaw puzzle to your wish list. That’s something you can enjoy with family and still get your “quilting fix”!

Just click on the blue “wish list” button that shows up on every item page.

And don’t forget the Christmas Quilt Fabric. If you don’t use it this year you can never have too much stash!

Tomorrow is the first Friday of the month and as always there will be a special for all our Facebook Fans. Just “like” us on Facebook and you’ll never miss the coupon code for any of the Facebook First Friday special deals.

This month the special is FREE SHIPPING to US addresses! The more you buy, the more you save!

Let’s go on a virtual shopping trip. You could buy, say, this Caribbean Star quilt pattern…

It’s gorgeous, isn’t it? Paper foundation piecing will enable you to create perfect star points with ease. Finishing at 21″ square this makes a beautiful wall hanging. So purchase this pattern and you save some money because the shipping is FREE! to US addresses.

But, why stop there? Doesn’t this quilt make you yearn for batiks?

All of the Batik Cascades fade from very dark to very light across the width of fabric. This essentially gives you several shades of color in each piece.

Patina Handpaints are available in blue, in green, and in blue/green with an allover mottled shading of vivid color.

Okay, so now you have a pattern, and a few yards of batiks in your cart. You’re buying more so you’re saving more on shipping . . . . ’cuz it’s FREE! to US addresses.

Let’s keep going. When you finish your quilt top you’re going to need some batting. Quilters Dream Cotton Batting is available in several sizes, from craft size (46″ x 36″) to King size (122″ x 122″), and in four different lofts. Made from 100% cotton, it’s specially processed so you can quilt up to 8″ apart.

Or, do you prefer Quilters Dream Poly Batting? Made with an exclusive blend of revolutionary microfibers giving it exceptional drape, breathability and comfort. This batting is resistant to bunching and shifting, so you can quilt up to 12″ apart.

Some of us are still experiencing a heat wave but Fall really will be here before we know it! It’ll be time to put away the watermelon theme placemats and the sailboat wall hanging and replace them with your favorite fall quilts. And time to make something new to add to your collection.

Fall Glory is a two for one quilt pattern. The large Fall Glory quilt (54″ x 67.5″) and the small Acorn Trail quilt (48″ x 59.5″) are both perfect as wall hangings. You could also toss them across a couch or easy chair for snuggling under on cool autumn evenings. Applique instructions are given for both hand and machine.

Measuring just 15″ square, this small Fall Wreath really packs a punch of color. Foundation piecing makes the construction easy and precise.

With Perennial Favorites you can make a 24″ x 40″ Fall table runner and have instructions (including applique patterns) for a Christmas runner and a Spring/Summer table runner. You’ll be set for the year!

Anne Cosgrove’s book All For Fall will give you quilts to make for this Fall, and some for next Fall too. Projects include large quilts, wall hangings, pillows, table runner, table topper, placemats and more. Anne repeats many of the design elements in the different items so if you make more than one your pieces will complement one another for a beautiful coordinated Fall look.
