Designs To Share With You – Part 1

Ursula Riegel is the designer of Designs To Share With You.   No stranger to sewing, when she began quilting she discovered a new love and it was FUN!  She offers clear step by step directions so you can have fun, too. Her patterns include full size quilts, but also include lots of small projects from placemats to tote bags to wall hangings.

Basketweave is a great pattern for new quilters.  Design consists of one block, with only straight seams.  How to choose the fabric and prepare it, all sewing and assembly instructions, plus quilting and binding are all covered in detail.  A first course in quilting!

Tutti-Frutti is another one for beginners.  This one has half square triangles.  And the instructions include details for three different sizes (lap, single bed sized, and table runner)  so you can make them all and get lots of practice on HST.  If you weren’t before you started this project, you’ll be an expert when you finish.

This sampler, Home Is Where The Heart Is, will teach several machine techniques.  Machine applique, foundation piecing, and curved piecing are a few of the techniques covered with detailed instructions.

If you are looking to learn all about applique, Cat Parade is a great wallhanging for practice.  Pattern includes instructions for Satin Stitch Applique, Invisible Machine Applique and Hand Applique.

This is just a sampling of the quilts offered by Designs To Share With You.  We haven’t even touched on all the other projects Ursula has to share!  Check back soon for part 2.

And in the meantime you can browse all the quilt patterns at QuiltersWarehouse.

Backpacks for School – It’s Nearly Time

It seems like summer just started but here it is August already.  School will be starting soon and bookbags will be needed.

Be-Bop Backpacks has eight variations.  Instructions are included for piecing, foundation piecing, and applique along with full size pattern pieces.  Add embellishments and create a truly unique backpack.

Thousand Pyramid Pack is a drawstring backpack for those light days when there isn’t a lot to carry.

The Chelsea Tote can be worn over the shoulder or you can unzip the single strap into two straps and wear it as a traditional backpack.

The Zola Backpack has two large pockets . . . one inside and one outside.  This bag is so easy to make that you’ll have time to make one for your student and then make one for yourself.

Designer Backpack lets you be the designer.  This simple pattern is ready for you to add your special touch, whether it’s with favorite fabric or lots of embellishments.

And, not everyone wants a backpack to carry all their things.  Sometimes a tote bag is wanted.  The Messenger Girl Bag is a great over the shoulder bag, and yet you can still adjust it to use as a backpack.  It will hold a laptop and has lots of pockets.

The City Bag has handles and a shoulder strap.  It’s nice and large (11″x17″) and has tons of pockets.  This pattern includes Lazy Girl’s trademark ‘No Fear’ zipper technique.  Make a really nice bag AND learn something new!

Okay, hurry up and finish your backpack sewing so you have time to get back to regular quilt patterns!

Rachel’s of Greenfield and her Complete Kits

Spotty Cat is Rachel’s newest kit and isn’t it cute?!  Poor kitty just wants to be left alone but is surrounded by playful mice.  This kit is COMPLETE.  Fabric is included for the background, the borders, the back and the binding.  Woolfelt for all the applique is included.  AND all the embellishments, embroidery floss, the pattern and instructions.  One kit to purchase and no need to search high and low for just the right color felt or just the right size button.  Simply open your kit and start having fun.

Here’s a few more wall hanging kits.

We have to give equal exposure to the canines.  Puppy Love features four adorable pups with bones and hearts on the borders.  This wall hanging finishes at 13″ X 15″, just like Spotty Cat.  Lots of Rachel’s wall hangings are this size.  Makes them perfect for a grouping.

Chicken Coop would look great in your kitchen or breakfast nook.  Mother Hen and her four little chicks will brighten your morning.

Where there’s a chick, the rooster can’t be far away.  This colorful roosting is telling us all to Rise & Shine. His little one is trying to crow “just like Dad”.

And how about a cute little Rag Doll.  Her happy face will make you smile as she offers a couple pretty flowers.  She kept one for her hatband!

This is just a few of the complete kits that are available from Rachel’s of Greenfield, but they’ll get you started.  And when you need a break and want to work on a traditional quilt pattern, they are just a click away!
